I stayed for one night in a lovely double room, and the historic building truly adds character to the experience. The staff were attentive and friendly, making my visit feel welcoming. Enjoyed a delicious breakfast with a variety of options to choose from, and the comfortable garden area was a nice spot to relax. One downside was the noise from the pub late at night, which could be a little disruptive for light sleepers.

Perfect for a quick escape for friends

The room was super clean, just as expected, and that bed? It felt like laying on clouds. And the breakfast was a delight, fresh eggs cooked to perfection, not like that rubber nonsense we sometimes get elsewhere.

we stayed for 2 nights and had a really great time! the staff were super friendly and helped us with everything we needed. the room was nice n light. There was a fan that helped a lot! really enjoyed the breakfast and the choice was good. Being able to order cooked items was less wasteful. overall, it was a lovely stay.

the bathroom could've been cleaner, and the shower pressure was pretty low. also, we had some noise from outside that made it hard to sleep at times.

The cozy room made returning from a day of exploring places like West Park Local Nature Reserve and Bridge Cottage Heritage Centre a real delight, as I loved the friendly staff and the nice selection at breakfast that fueled my adventures each morning.

Nice enough room with a comfy bed. Had fun in the games room. Breakfast quality needs to improve.

Amazing hotel with free parking, a relaxing bar area, and excellent wi-fi. The staff were helpful, even returning documents I left behind. I always enjoy my stay and will definitely come back for another trip!

The room was comfy and clean, which was a plus. We had a lovely view of the garden and the bed was super cozy. There was a nice touch with shortbread left for us, too. The decor was vintage and I liked the separate bar areas. But, I could hear some noise from the road outside which was a bit distracting. it had character but could use a little update here and there.

the chequers is a charming old building. the friendly staff made us feel welcome right away. we enjoyed excellent food at great value prices. the room was a good size, and the bed was very comfortable. parking was convenient, and it was easy to find. my wife loved the atmosphere, especially around the bar.

I loved the beautiful setting surrounded by woodland and found the historic features of the property absolutely charming, which made my stay really enjoyable as it set the perfect backdrop for my city explorations and walks to nearby landmarks like Ashdown Forest, just under 4 km away.
